Our Mission
As the local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program, Gilstad Literacy Foundation has two responsibilities:
- Register eligible preschool children in the program, and,
- Raise the funds to pay for the books to be published and mailed to the children.
Our Journey
The Gilstad Literacy Foundation (GLF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to promoting early childhood literacy in Charlotte County. Founded in 2021 by Dr. Dennis and Shawn Gilstad, GLF took over the management of the Charlotte County Imagination Library (CCIL) to ensure that every preschool child has access to free, high-quality books.
The people who make it possible
Since 2021, the Gilstad Literacy Foundation (GLF) has championed early childhood literacy throughout Charlotte County. As a proud 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Dr. Dennis and Shawn Gilstad, GLF now leads the Charlotte County Imagination Library (CCIL), providing preschool children with free, high-quality books that foster a lifelong love of reading.

The Charlotte County Imagination Library
The Charlotte County Imagination Library (CCIL) is a local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, dedicated to fostering early literacy by providing free books to preschool children. For over a decade, CCIL has helped thousands of children develop a love for reading by delivering high-quality books directly to their homes.
